Ecusson Jean d’Albret
Ecusson Jean d'Albret is a perfume for people with a classical education, because the brand is named not just in honor of a distant relative of the brand's owners - Counts Hubert and Michel d'Ornano. Jeanne d'Albret, Queen of Navarre and mother of the future King of France Henry IV, a militant Protestant who led the Huguenot movement, was a notable character in French history. Legends circulated about her life and death: Jeanne died right before the politically important wedding of her son Henry and the Catholic French princess Marguerite of Valois, daughter of the insidious Catherine de Medici. It was rumored that Medici gave Jeanne deadly scented gloves soaked in poison.
There is no poison in the perfume. There is frivolity and corporeality. Ecusson (coat of arms) Jean d’Albret — opens with flying light aldehydes in a whirlwind of rose petals, surrounds with a heady haze of night jasmine and deathly pale carnation, pollen of yellow daffodils and large-headed terry irises, the floral whirlwind is heated by civet and nitro musks, which added sex to vintage Chanel no. 5, and drowns in the honey sweetness of ripe nectarines.
Ecusson is often compared to the Five. Here is almost the same bouquet, the same mood, but more lyricism and violets. In principle, an optional, but beautiful perfume. Especially in the 70s bottle empire.
The brand dedicated to the rebellious queen ceased to exist in 1977. For a short time, the d'Ornano brothers merged their perfume and cosmetics businesses into one brand, Orlane, and then abandoned them altogether. Michel went into politics, Hubert created the now thriving Sisley brand.
The 1958 poster has the following note: In the city, at the races, at vernissages, at elegant soirées. Ecusson with essences of: French jasmine, rose from the East, tuberose, Parma violet and Tuscan iris.
