Rose of May and Jasmine of Country Perris Monte Carlo

In addition to conclusions and assessments, I bring a freshly edited wishlist from each perfume exhibition. Sometimes it’s big, more often it’s short and with an uncertain execution date, because niche perfumes don’t get cheaper. But each one has a couple of the most desirable fragrances that will be obtained at any cost. In 2019, the hottest item on my list is Rose de Mai Perris Monte Carlo. It was released in the new Les Parfums de Grasse collection, dedicated to the basics of French perfumery — flowers from Grasse, and first of all, jasmine and rose.

Rose

Rose de Mai Perris Monte Carlo turns everyone into a thrifty Grasse resident. This respectable gentleman barely opens his eyes, already admires the pink roses under the window, washes and rinses his mouth with fresh rose water, pours transparent rose petal jam over pancakes at breakfast, and even has an ironing liquid with rose hydrolate. A rose is an everyday thing for him, he knows it by touch and taste, it surrounds him everywhere, and it seems that this deprives its image of poetry. But there are many poetic, passionate and festive roses in perfumery, and I don’t remember any intimate roses at all, which you take with your whole skin, like a bath. Rose de mai is a hedonist’s rose. It is a delight for all the senses for only €145.

Jasmine

The author of the compositions for the Les Parfums de Grasse collection — Jean Claude Ellena was born in Grasse into a family of perfumers. His father did not make perfumes, he was engaged in fragrances for soap and cosmetics. At home, he never talked about work, but in Grasse it is not necessary, there everything smells of jasmine and rose. At the age of 16, Jean Claude dropped out of school and went to work at the Chiris perfume factory. When a school opened in Switzerland in one of the leading perfume companies Givaudan, Ellena became one of its first students. He spent 8 years there before he was entrusted with creating perfumes on his own, and the young perfumer dedicated his first job to his beloved Grasse jasmine from childhood.

This perfume — First Van Cleef&Arpels is still being produced, but the jasmine in them is not the same. That one is in Jasmin de Pays, the fragrance that Ellena made this year for Perris Monte Carlo. It has the intoxicating scent of tiny white jasmine flowers in the humid night air of some warm Mediterranean resort, a drop of indole and the most delicate banana soufflĂ© with a slice of baked apple. Again, taste and tactile sensations come first, again sincere and lively emotions. Jasmin de Pays was nice at the Esxence exhibition, but in blooming Moscow in May it is simply stunningly beautiful. The intoxicating jasmine wind dissolves in the aromas of blooming bird cherry, lilac and apple trees, and this wind is everywhere.

Jasmine, carnation, marigold, musk

I hope that Perris Monte Carlo will not stop at two flowers. I would very much like to receive the narcissus and orange blossom in the brilliant execution of Jean-Claude Ellena. We do not have the stamp yet.
