The most powerful impression of the Milan exhibition Esxence was the work of Jean-Claude Ellena for Perris Monte Carlo - Rose de Mai and Jasmin de Pays. Last year, the perfumer already celebrated his retirement with a lush floral bouquet in the vintage style of Essence Rare Houbigant, and this year he once again convincingly reminded everyone that before transparent watercolors, Hermessence made fragrances not for elves, but for living people. His rose is tenderness itself, full of dew and nectar, and jasmine seems to glow from within and illuminate everything around. They are joyful to wear, easy to understand.

Another work by Jean-Claude Ellena has caused a lot of controversy. Rose&Cuir Frederic Malle, fragrant with geranium, vetiver and bitter black-green isobutylquinoline leather, is addressed, like all the latest works of Frederic Malle, to the past and the future, easy and pleasant to wear and provides food for thought. A work of art and brilliant teamwork. As always, though.

I bought Memoire d`une Odeur Gucci in duty free, having barely tried it and not waiting for it to appear with discounts here. The scent of peace, childhood, carelessness, which practical people try to break down and understand. I'm not trying. I just resonated with it and I love it. I respect Gucci for its courage, because they released something in the mass segment that about half of the people would never buy. Of the launches of this year, I would also like to praise the elegant bouquet with tuberose and lilies Gucci Bloom Ambrosia de Fiori, but I haven't been able to get it even in a sample yet. I'll buy it later, when the 30 ml bottles come out.

Love Twist Soul Couture - tuberose with fresh feijoa pulp. Few people have tried this fragrance and can even buy it in its native Italy, and the press does not pay attention to it, but I consider it one of the most successful in 2019. It is alive and strange, some kind of alien. I think Baby Yoda could smell like this.

The Slovak brand 1907 Parfums added three new fragrances to its Beneath the Surface project in 2019. All of them are addressed to different audiences, but I especially want to note the vintage gilded splendor of Dame d`Or, a fragrance inspired by the classics of the early 20th century. No one has yet performed or dared to perform better in this field than 1907.

Courage is the most fashionable decoration of the last three years. Absolutely charming, going against all gender stereotypes, green with vanilla and musk, with a wild charisma and sillage, Green Lover Lolita Lempicka was a bold decision for the brand in the mass segment. I hope it will fail in sales and will not discourage the creators from taking risks.

Nowadays, fragrances are increasingly released not one by one, but in whole clips/collections. Some brands hope to be more noticeable on the shelves or to please at least someone. Others (there are few of them) really tell stories or offer ideas.

A very complex, but important idea of ​​a world without borders and stereotypes is contained in the collection of the Turkish brand Nishane No Boundaries and its main fragrance Ani. It smells of fresh greenery, fruits, milk and vanilla. The air of a blessed land where the Turkish and Armenian people can live side by side. And someday they will definitely be.

The My Cup of Tea collection by the Russian brand Brocard is dedicated to the tea traditions of the world. It has four compositions with aromas of tea, spices, bergamot, samovar smoke, Turkish sweets and everything that accompanies the ritual of tea drinking in different countries. My favorite in the collection, Early Morning, smells like white pomelo juice, fresh wind, ginger and cool green tea. I spent the whole summer in it. I can't wait for the next one.

The 7 Lovers collection by Carine Roitfeld Parfums, but we really need it, because all the aromas in it are made with soul and intelligence, all are different, but close as brothers, and all about love. Among the seven lovers, there is not a single random or ordinary one. You remember each one warmly. The fougere handsome Orson is especially good.

Comme des Garcons neither surprised nor disappointed, but performed in 2019 as befits the flagships of strange perfumery - they brought back Series 10: Clash. All three fragrances combine the incompatible and blow the minds of the unprepared public. So let's drink to consistency!

For the best bottle design in 2019, I would award Memoire d`une Odeur Gucci and Lost Cherry Tom Ford. The green bottle of chamomile and cherry consistently collect thousands of likes on Instagram.
