Cigno Nero
Cigno Nero is Emily Chinigo's third niche project, and once again dedicated to mysticism, magic and spiritual quests. Each Cigno Nero fragrance is a talisman, an olfactory image of a mythical creature endowed with magical powers.
The symbol of Forza Suprema is a dragon. A powerful and virtually invulnerable creature, the Cigno Nero version is not at all scary. It breathes out not a deadly flame, but a sweetish gray smoke of Indian incense sticks. Instead of knights and their horses for breakfast, our pocket dragon prefers hot chocolate with Mexican spices, dried raspberries, vanilla and roasted nuts. And it also reminds me very much of something resinous niche from the early 2000s. Maybe not even something specific, but a whole shelf of spicy woody ones from Serge Lutens and Comme des Garcons of that time.
Forza Suprema Cigno Nero, 2020, ginger, neroli, brgamot, leather, labdanum, cocoa, nutmeg, tar, olibanum, vetiver, cashmeran, musk.
Dolce Canto is a mermaid. You understand this right away, because everything that happens in this fragrance happens to a person standing knee-deep in sea water. You smile at the sun and breathe in the sea, drink cold compote of small yellow apples and apricots and breathe in the sea, melted ice cream flows down your hands, and you stand in shorts wet from salty splashes and breathe in the sea. Dolce Canto is a fresh aquatic compote, but not as simple as it seems. It really does have this sea that we all miss.
Dolce Canto Cigno Nero, 2020, apple chips, black currant, fin, ginger, cardamom, jasmine, musk, sandalwood, cedar
Anima Libera is the winged horse Pegasus, a talisman of poets, dreamers and creative people. In perfume form, it is as fragile and changeable as your lyricists. I like the very lively bergamot with green tea and small red berries, but all this beauty lasts for a maximum of 30 minutes. Then the officialdom in an ironed white shirt comes in and it becomes boring.
Anima Libera Cigno Nero, 2020, mate, bergamot, pink pepper, white iris, mineral notes, jasmine, musk, ambroxan, cedar.
Pura Essenza is a unicorn. The talisman of innocence, purity and universal love unexpectedly smells like a bright patchouli-fruity chypre with a good set of resins and spices, a full tray of sweet and sour dried apricots and prunes with raisins. Lush, slightly powdery and arrogant, it resembles three fruity chypres by Chanel at once - Coco Mademoiselle, Chance, 31 Rue Cambon, as if it were their younger cousin.
Pura Essenza Cigno Nero, 2020, jasmine, pink pepper, Sichuan pepper, leather, styrax, oud, benzoin, musk.
Araba Feniche is a fireproof, indestructible, indestructible evernil phoenix. A cozy and unexpectedly transparent gourmand scent with multi-fruit sour jelly and amber. There is almost no sugar here, and evernil is surprisingly cautious, like the warm breath of a person sleeping next to you. I can just imagine flexible Instagram beauties in beige tracksuits in Araba Feniche.
Araba Feniche Cigno Nero, 2020 Mango, green apple, peach, plum, coconut, mandarin, strawberry, black currant, bergamot, green leaves, magnolia, jasmine, lily of the valley, heliotrope, orchid, tuberose, rose, orange blossom, sugar, praline, patchouli, white musk, sandalwood, amber, cedar and, it seems, the entire periodic table.
Cigno Nero has a light bottle, high concentration - all perfumes, a rather fancy box, which is a case for glasses. Somewhat unexpectedly, but many people like such practicality. But the most important thing is that the whole collection has a psychologically very comfortable price, which in our times is a big fat plus.
